Designing a visual system for Monday, a creative collective

Monday is a collective built around collaboration, experimentation and making. The identity needed to give the group a recognisable presence without becoming overly corporate or polished. It had to work as a studio signature while leaving enough freedom for different disciplines, collaborators and creative outputs to live within it.
The challenge was therefore not simply to design a logo, but to create the beginnings of a visual identity that could feel distinctive, flexible and culturally relevant.
Creative collectives rarely have a single fixed expression. Their identity comes from the tension between different people, disciplines and ideas coming together. Rather than creating a conventional identity based on consistency alone, the opportunity was to build recognition through a small number of strong visual ingredients that could constantly be rearranged. The identity could behave more like a creative toolkit than a rigid set of brand rules.
Motion, captured in a mark.
The identity takes inspiration from triangular cone tones, simple directional forms associated with movement, rhythm and visual communication. Their geometry became the foundation of the wordmark, translating the collective’s fast-paced and flexible approach to video production into a distinctive visual signature.
The same forms extend beyond the wordmark into the wider identity, where they can shift, rotate, crop and combine, creating a system that feels continuously in motion.
The result balances energy and adaptability with precision, reflecting the collective’s commitment to both creative experimentation and quality.
The visual language deliberately uses a limited set of ingredients.
Typography
A compact, unconventional wordmark gives the studio its own signature, contrasted with a neutral grotesque typeface for communication.
Color
Black and warm off-white establish a graphic foundation, while vivid red acts as the identity’s primary signal, energetic, immediate and difficult to ignore.
Shape
Rounded geometric forms introduce movement and personality. Their oversized scale allows them to move between symbol, image and composition.
Composition
Large areas of negative space are contrasted with cropped, oversized forms. Rather than centering everything neatly, elements frequently enter and leave the frame.
The core graphic form becomes a modular system. It can be rotated, mirrored, repeated, cropped and combined, producing a large family of compositions from a deliberately small visual vocabulary. A grid provides enough structure to keep those compositions coherent, while the graphic element is allowed to break that structure.
This creates two layers within the system:
Constant:
wordmark / typography, palette and underlying geometry
Variable:
scale, orientation, repetition, cropping and composition
Instead of defining one fixed brand layout, the system defines rules for generating many layouts.
The identity can expand from a studio signature into a broader communication system. The wordmark handles moments where recognition is most important, while the graphic language can take over when greater expression is needed. Across social content, posters, digital experiences, presentations, motion, merchandise and physical collateral, the same underlying elements can behave differently according to context.
In motion, shapes can rotate, connect or move through the frame. In print, they can become oversized crops. Digitally, the modular system could become responsive or interactive.
This allows Monday to remain recognisable without looking identical every time.
